Evaluation 'Jet Black'

Media evaluation ‘Jet Black’

During our lesson we were giving an assignment to create a TV advert. I had paired up with Tariq, Philip and Stefan; I came up with the idea to create an advert for an up and coming urban clothing line named ‘Jet Black’. I was aware of Jet Black due to the owners of the company, Darryl and Richard and also being one of their customers and followers on social media. Knowing that ‘Jet Black’ was a new company and was needy for more advertise I thought it would be a great opportunity to use their company and create one with my group for our assignment. I wanted to talk to owners first just because it is a company and I wanted to be a professional and ask permission and background information about ‘Jet Black’.

One of the owners Darryl had got back to me and answered a few of my questions and I had background information about the clothing line to help me explore different conventions. Such as, the meaning of their company name ‘ Jet Black’ is because a Jet explores luxury and ‘Black’ is the colour their clothing consists. Using this information I created a PowerPoint to present to the class with my group showing how to contact ‘Jet Black’ the clothing line, their clothing, background information and what to expect in the TV ad.

Our initial plans did eventually change due to more planning and coming up with final ideas, our first planning I came up with the idea to film in the dark outside around 4 PM as it gets dark around that time in winter, also to film in St Thomas More school playground and Woodside Park on greenery. A member on my group had disagreed and wanted to film in a studio and another member wanted to get a white wide sheet and film in front of that using media classroom.  We did not manage to book a studio due to member of groups schedule and price range and this issue also applied to buying a white sheet, which was effective, and the right size.

As a member of the group I wanted to get all the planning out the way so we can get started on filming. I had looked around my school for models to help create the advert, this was not hard to find, and as our target audience was young adults aged 16+. I had to make sure that the target audience for our TV ad also was the same as the owners target audience for their clothing. Using our incentive my group members had also involved themselves as models in our TV advert and helped pick out multi culture models with different sizes and heights.

Using a storyboard and camera Tariq and I went to our initial location which was the playground we asked the help of a few models just to model in our location pictures as we picked where in the playground we came up with camera shots.
